Peter’s Story

“I thank God that you accepted to take on our family, your service was a Godsend.”

These aren’t just words of gratitude; they’re a testament to the life-saving work of Jannawi Family Centre. Peter, a father who once felt helpless and alone in the face of domestic violence, found hope and healing through Jannawi’s unwavering support.

Imagine the terror of witnessing your children suffer, the frustration of a system that seems to fail them at every turn. This was Peter’s reality. But then, he found Jannawi.

For four years, Jannawi walked alongside Peter and his children, providing a lifeline they desperately needed: Individualised counselling: Healing the deep wounds of trauma for Peter, his children, and even their abuser.

  • Facilitated contact: Ensuring safe and supervised visits rebuilding fractured relationships.
  • Fierce advocacy: Fearlessly challenging police, child protection services, schools, and even the court system when they failed to protect the children.
  • Empowerment: Giving Peter the tools and the voice to fight for his family’s safety and well-being.
  • Parenting guidance: Transforming Peter’s home into a haven of peace and security.

The journey was long and arduous, filled with tears and setbacks. It took four years of relentless effort to secure no-contact orders and begin the process of healing.

Rebuilding their lives and unlearning harmful patterns was another immense challenge, dealing with the complexities of the legal system and seeking support from various agencies.

Still, Peter was grateful to have Jannawi walking alongside him. Peter notes, “I have cried so many times over the last four years, and many times I have cried from joy and gratefulness that Jannawi has got our back, and we have professionals who can help to stop the abuse cycle.”

Thanks, in part, to your support, Peter’s children are thriving today. Their laughter fills their home, and their smiles radiate joy. Their doctor’s words echo Peter’s heart: “We don’t need to talk about medication because Sam is doing really well this year…”
